i live inside my head
though some thoughts spill out every now and then
never meant to be read
i know you want what's best for me but
i do things my way and choose not to introduce you
to the corners and
the closets and the dark secrets
rotting holes in my floor and
casting shadows on my impressions
so don't you waste your precious time
grabbing for things that are beyond your reach
never meant to be touched they'll fall and break
and crumble underneath
the slightest breath
shot from the promises
prayers and lullabies and curses from the saviors lips
this mule will carry its load
through the grass and the mud
with buckled knees set steady
by white tablets and chemistry
my calloused brain is trained to ignore
or brush away the reoccurring nightmares
and the repeated offenses
its getting bolder now
like some rose bush kept down for twenty years
but fed consistently with
light from fires
water from trenches and
now your words have set it free
but don't get me wrong
i cannot blame you my dear
we're social animals and empathy
is what sets us apart but
so does invention
self-recognition and
i'm close with the problem and
assure you i can come up with
creative plots
to stunt the growth and to prevent the spread
without the help of your
collective farming
tractor stations and
pesticide only works
for the ones who aren't immune to it
